Hannibal
Heyes Always
referred to as Heyes (never Hannibal), he is the former leader of
the Devil's Hole Gang (along with Kid Curry) and is Wanted Dead or
Alive with a reward of $10,000. The Wanted poster gives his
age as 29. In his days as an outlaw, he never shot
anyone. He is a safe-breaker and a thinker - often coming up
with elaborate plans to keep himself and Kid Curry out of
jail. Now seeking an amnesty for his past crimes, he lives under the alias of Joshua Smith. |
Jedediah
"Kid" Curry
Known as
Kid Curry, he is also the former leader of the Devil's Hole Gang
(along with Heyes) and is Wanted Dead or Alive with a reward of
$10,000. The Wanted poster gives his age as 27. In his
days as an outlaw, he never shot anyone. He is, however, regarded as
the Fastest Gun in the West. Now seeking an amnesty for his
past crimes, he lives under the alias of
Thaddeus Jones.

Hannibal
Heyes and Kid Curry

Together, they are
the two most successful outlaws in the history of the West and both
have a $10,000 price on their heads - payable dead or alive.
They are wanted for a string of train and bank robberies as leaders
of the notorious Devil's Hole Gang.
However, as times are
changing and the safes are becoming harder to get into and the
posses are getting bigger, they realise it is only a matter of time
before they are caught. They visit Sheriff Lom Trevors,
himself a former outlaw and friend of Heyes and Curry, and ask him
to speak to the Governor of Wyoming about a possible amnesty for
them.
The Governor grants a
provisional amnesty, but there are conditions. Before the
final amnesty is granted they must live as law-abiding citizens for
one year. Until that time, the amnesty deal must remain a
secret however, and they will still be wanted and can still go to
jail with a probable 20 year prison sentence awaiting them.

Cousins?
Or Not?
They may be
cousins. In The Man Who Broke the Bank at Red Gap (Pete
Duel''s second to last episode), Curry
refers to "our sage old grandfather". However, as he
is not actually seen to say the words, this could have
been dubbed afterwards. The wording of the opening credits was
also changed for this episode to describe them as "Kansas
Cousins". It is not clear why this change was made and some
feel it could have been in preparation for Roger Davis taking over
the Hannibal Heyes role following Pete Duel's death. In the previous episodes, there is
nothing to suggest that they are cousins.
For VS3, the
assumption is that they may be cousins - or they may not be!
What is agreed by all, is that this makes little difference to the
relationship between the two which is based on strong friendship and
total loyalty.
